Thousands of Ham Radio operators will be showing off their emergency communications capabilities during Field Day, a twenty-four hour event which will begin at 1 pm (CDT) on June 26. On the weekend of June 26-27, the public will have a chance to meet and talk with these Ham Radio operators and see for themselves what the Amateur Radio Service is about. This year Field Day will start on Saturday, June 26 at 1:00 pm (CDT) and will conclude on Sunday at 3:00 pm. There will be Field Day sites set up all over the state of Arkansas. Click on the pins in the map below for details on the Field Day location nearest you.
If your Field Day location is not on this map, then it has not been registered with the ARRL. Registration only takes a moment, and can be accomplished online at http://www.arrl.org/field-day-locator.
What is Field Day?
Field Day is the single largest annual event in the amateur radio community. Each year amateur radio operators, often called “hams”, show off their wireless capabilities by erecting radio stations in community parks, campgrounds, schools, and emergency centers throughout the United States and Canada. They demonstrate their emergency communications abilities while having fun talking to friends all over the continent with their radios.Using only emergency power, ham operators construct temporary radio stations around the country for the weekend and send messages in many forms without the use of phone systems, Internet or other infrastructure that can be compromised in a crisis.
The public is invited to come, meet and talk with the hams – and in most locations even try it out and see how much fun you can have! See what modern Amateur Radio can do. Using their digital and satellite capabilities, voice communications, radio and even Web hybrid systems along with historic Morse code, they prove “It’s not your Grandfather’s radio anymore.”
